Safety is all around us :)

Hey, Some extra safety measures in our work shop are our first aid box which can provide basic first aid to fix minor cuts and abrasions, we have a evacuation plan in case of any emergency and also an emergency shut off switch on either wall of the workshop to isolate the power-points in case an incident has occurred or the system needs to be shut down to prevent further injury or machine damage. Update:

Hi guys, Just touching base as I haven't shared an update in a while. SO! I have used the SIM5320 and have had some issues with it. I have consulted so MANY online sources and used plenty of different codes to try and work it. I have been able to run some basic AT commands that allow me to try and send a text/ make a phone call. But I found out that my sim card (Hologram) is only registered for data/ roaming. So that allowed me to turn on GPRS not GPS, I have tested this by using the tracking software given by SIMCOM and I was able to get a fixed reading to a satellite. Diagnostic Testing

Hi again and welcome back to my blog, It has come time to begin diagnostic testing my project and evaluation its efficiency. To start I am testing out how much energy is consumed per opening of the RFID solenoid lock. To do this I connected a multi-meter in series (ammeter) and one in parallel (voltage), by multiplying these two values I can determine the power then multiply that by the time the solenoid is open for (4 secs or delay(400)) and that gives me the total energy (joules). By calculating that the system draws a current of 0.5848 ohms and 3.384 Volts. The energy used is a total of 7.9159 Joules per opening. I have 3x 18650 cells with each having 2.5 Amp hours and 3.7 Volts each so a total of 9.25 Watt Hours to get that to seconds we multiply it by 3,600 we determine the joules to be 33,300 for each cell (a total of 99,900 Joules for the 3 cells). Now if we divide 99,900 joules total energy by the amount of joules used each turn (7.9159J) we can find how many times it can be

Risk Management

Hi and welcome back to my blog, In order to manage and be proactive about my safety before I started production it was ideal to plan and assess all situations that could go wrong and find ways to reduce the hazards using protective tools and equipment. Then the situations were rated by colour with red being most likely and green being least likely. Below I have attached my plan. Thanks for reading and I hope you find it useful, Perry :)

Diagnostic Testing

Hi and welcome back... again, Ill be starting diagnostic testing and evaluations on my project soon, but first I need to fix some key issues. 1. GPS driver and upload issues - My computer drivers aren't properly downloading when connected to the SIM5320, I went to our local technician and he stated it may be a library issue and that I should reinstall said libraries. As for the upload issue it is just a matter of altering the code appropriately  2. RFID Code Glitch - I am currently having an issue with the RFID/ solenoid locking system, when I added an override switch to my system when activate for an extended period of time it shorts the Arduino and will thus not allow the RFID reader to work. To fix it momentarily I need to click the reset button located on the Arduino inside the bag. But when a reset needs to occur but the bag is locked all that needs to be done is to use the override to unlock and thus click the reset button, although this is inconvenient due to time rest

Hi all and welcome back to my blog, After being absent for a little time, I have been working hard on my project still. As the deadlines come closer and closer I have needed to put my head down and focus on the task at hand.  I have begun to fiddle with my SIM5320A more and have run into computer driver issues that are not being installed correctly, I have searched far and wide on the internet and have acquired the help of a friend, Stephen. He is very knowledgeable with the SIM5320A as he is currently using them at University. By utilizing Stephen I can freely get the help that I need.  My solenoid locking system is coming together, I first designed a notch that would allow the locking pin to simply slide into the position without the  need to unlock the solenoid first and then place it into position. Unfortunately this didn't work as it was too small and tough to push the solenoid aside. So, instead the user will need to unlock the solenoid and then place the latch into p

Time Management

Hi and welcome back to my blog, As we are quickly declining to the completion of this project it is ideal for me to constantly be referring to my Gannt chart as this allows me to determine at which stage in production I should be at. It is a great time management system but can be hard to set up as it has so many components that need to be addressed. By taking time to organize it appropriately will serve well in the long run. As shown below you can see the sheer size of how many parts I have added to it. I am currently on track with my project with reference to the Gannt chart. Thanks for reading :)
