RFID Locking Mechanism

Hi and welcome back to my blog, Today I worked with a RFID shield from Aus Electronics Direct ( https://www.auselectronicsdirect.com.au/rfid-read-and-write-module-kit-for-arduino-project ). I used the instructions from Viral Science Creator ( https://www.viralsciencecreativity.com/tutorials/arduino-rfid-solenoid-lock ). The RFID module is simple and consist of a read and a write function. It uses a radio frequency finder and can detect the individual card numbers which can then allow you to alter code to create an output for when the card is read. For this project I used the read function to create the output of unlocking a solenoid. I used a small 5V solenoid from Core Electronics ( https://core-electronics.com.au/solenoid-5v-small.html ) and 3x 18650 cell batteries from Hobby King ( https://hobbyking.com/en_us/18650-type-2500mah-3-7v-8c.html )(they were the cheapest and safest and available in Australia). Equipment/ Tool Safety

Welcome back to my blog, Today I read, understood and completed online safety tasks to assure that I am working safely and understand how to identify and prevent risks in parts of the workshop where I will be using tools and equipment. I have learned to not use any appliance with frayed or exposed wires as this poses an electrical hazard. As well as considering everything in the soldering iron area to be hot and be cautious when picking up and moving items around, this includes keeping that area well ventilated and wearing goggles and an apron to protect myself and my clothing. When using the laser cutter always keep the shield down to prevent eye damage, as well as wearing goggles, apron, hair net (for long hair), gloves and respirator. The overall risk for the laser cutter is low but these precautions and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) must be worn. When I use any electrical tool I need to wear an apron, goggles and ear muffs. Diagnostic Testing

Hi again and welcome back to my blog, It has come time to begin diagnostic testing my project and evaluation its efficiency. To start I am testing out how much energy is consumed per opening of the RFID solenoid lock. To do this I connected a multi-meter in series (ammeter) and one in parallel (voltage), by multiplying these two values I can determine the power then multiply that by the time the solenoid is open for (4 secs or delay(400)) and that gives me the total energy (joules). By calculating that the system draws a current of 0.5848 ohms and 3.384 Volts. The energy used is a total of 7.9159 Joules per opening. I have 3x 18650 cells with each having 2.5 Amp hours and 3.7 Volts each so a total of 9.25 Watt Hours to get that to seconds we multiply it by 3,600 we determine the joules to be 33,300 for each cell (a total of 99,900 Joules for the 3 cells). Now if we divide 99,900 joules total energy by the amount of joules used each turn (7.9159J) we can find how many times it can be...
